Late arriving or absent pupils
Please ensure that your child arrives at school on time. We understand that children may be late because of medical or other appointments on occasions. If your child does arrive late to school they must come / be brought to the main office to be registered.
If your child is going to be absent please contact us by 9.15am. You can telephone, leave a voicemail, email or pop into the office to let us know why your son or daughter is absent.
If your child has an upcoming medical or other appointment please bring the appointment letter to the school office before the day that your son or daughter will be absent from or late for school.
Children that are being collected from school during the school day (for appointments or because they have become unwell whilst at school) are signed out by a member of staff and by yourselves.
Parents and Carers are discouraged from taking holidays during term time. They can be disruptive to a child’s education. If a request for a term time absence is to be made please complete a Request for Absence form (available from the school office) at the earliest possible opportunity with details explaining the request. Requests are considered by the Headteacher who may authorise the request in exceptional circumstances such as a family funeral, religious observance or family weddings abroad.
Food and drink
During the school day, the children will have a morning break time and a lunchtime break.
SNACKS – Pupils in KS1 (Reception, Year 1 and 2) are entitled to a free piece of fruit or vegetable as a morning snack. If your child is in years 3 to 6 please feel free to send them into the Academy with fruit or vegetable from home.
FREE SCHOOL MEALS – All pupils in Reception and Years 1 and 2 are entitled to a Universal Infant Free School Meal. Many families are also entitled to claim for free school meals. The whole process is very simple and discrete and we will make sure your son or daughter receives a meal they will enjoy, whilst being healthy. If you think your child might be eligible, please contact the school office or Mrs James.
WATER – Children should bring water bottles for use during the day. These can be refilled by the children at school as and when necessary during the day. Please do not provide pupils with fizzy drinks.
MILK – We provide cartons (1/3 pint) of milk at morning break to children whose parents wish to purchase it. Letters are sent out with details or please contact the school office.
NUTS – Nut allergies are common, and as a result, please do not use nut products (for example peanut butter) in your child’s packed lunch.
Traffic and the school site
We encourage children and parents to walk to school. If you do live too far away to walk, why not find a place to park five or ten minutes walk from the school gates and walk the last part of the journey? It is good for your child as it wakes them up; gives you a chance to have a chat with them and alleviates traffic problems around the school. It is even good for the planet!
Parking close to the school gates i.e on School Crescent, Primrose Way or Augustus Way is very difficult and can be extremely dangerous. The beginning and end of the Academy day is very busy with children and families crossing busy roads. Please do not drive or park inconsiderately or dangerously.
Parents are not allowed to drive onto the school site unless there are medical reasons or you are a Blue Badge holder, in which case you would need to contact us in the first instance.
Dogs are not allowed on site.
Office Hours
Administrative staff are available between 8.30am and 3.15pm, Monday to Friday during term time.
