What is the Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium funding was introduced nationally in April 2011 and provides schools with additional funding to help close the gap between children from low income, and other disadvantaged families, and their peers nationally.
The funding is paid by means of a specific grant based on Primrose Hill C of E’s school census figures for pupils registered as eligible for Free School Meals in each year group, from Reception to Year 6. Any child who has been registered for FSM in the past 6 years (known as ‘Ever 6 FSM’) will be included in the register. Your child may be eligible for this funding if you receive any of the following:
- Income support
- Income based job seekers allowance
- Income related employment and support allowance
- Support under Part 6 of the immigration and asylum act 1999
- The guaranteed element of pension credit
- Child tax credit (provided you’re not also entitled to working tax credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190
- Working tax credit run-on paid for 4 weeks after you’ve stopped qualifying for working tax credit
- Universal credit – your household income must be less than £7400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you may get)
For Looked After Children, the Pupil Premium was calculated using the annual Looked After Children data returns.
A premium is also paid to the school for children whose parents are currently serving in the Armed Forces. This service premium is designed to address the emotional and social well-being of these pupils.
The additional funding is outlined below.
Pupil Premium funding
Disadvantaged pupils | Pupil premium per pupil |
Pupils in year groups Reception to Year 6 who are FSM or have ever been FSM in the past 6 years (ever 6) | £1480 |

The Pupil Premium funding is additional and separate to main school funding. It will be used by this school to address any underlying inequalities between eligible children and their peers nationally by ensuring that funding reaches the pupils who need it most.
As a school we recognise that there are many reasons for financial disadvantage, not just unemployment. This may results from a reduced income due to a range of other factors including: career changes; undertaking further training; long term sickness and caring responsibilities.
We are committed to supporting children and their families regardless of home situations and are keen to emphasise that financial disadvantage does not automatically equate to low ability. We have high aspirations for all our children and the additional Pupil Premium budget enables us to provide additional personalised supported to maximise learning and to offer enhanced opportunities.
